چکیده

A p-local finite group consists of a finite p-group S, together with a pair of categories which encode “conjugacy” relations among subgroups of S, and which are modelled on the fusion in a Sylow p-subgroup of a finite group. It contains enough information to define a classifying space which has many of the same properties as p-completed classifying spaces of finite groups. In this paper, we study and classify extensions of p-local finite groups, and also compute the fundamental group of the classifying space of a p-local finite

Central extensions of p-adic algebraic groups by finite p-groups

Some problems on algebraic groups over global fields like the congruence subgroup problem involve the determination of topological central extensions of the adelic group which, in turn, leads naturally to the study of topological central extensions of p-adic Lie groups by finite groups like the group of roots of unity in the p-adic field. Moreover, central extensions of semisimple p-adic Lie gr...

THE TITS BUILDING AND AN APPLICATION TO ABSTRACT CENTRAL EXTENSIONS OF p-ADIC ALGEBRAIC GROUPS BY FINITE p-GROUPS

For a connected, semisimple, simply connected algebraic group G defined and isotropic over a field k, the corresponding Tits building is used to study central extensions of the abstract group G(k). When k is a nonArchimedean local field and A is a finite, abelian p-group where p is the characteristic of the residue field of k, then with G of k-rank at least 2, we show that the group H2(G(k), A)...

Brandt extensions and primitive topologically periodic inverse topological semigroups

In this paper we find sufficient conditions on primitive inverse topological semigroup S under which: the inversion inv : (H(S)) (H(S)) is continuous; we show that every topologically periodic countable compact primitive inverse topological semigroups with closed H-classes is topologically isomorphic to an orthogonal sum P i2= Bi (Gi) of topological Brandt extensions Bi (Gi) of countably compac...

On ^-regular Extensions of Local Fields1

1. Let A be a complete field with respect to a discreet valuation,2 and suppose that the residue class field of K is finite and has characteristic p. A group which is finite and whose order is not divisible by p is said to be ^-regular. A normal extension of A whose Galois group is ^-regular will be called a ^-regular extension of K. The object of this paper is to characterize those groups whic...

Lubin-Tate Formal Groups and Local Class Field Theory

The goal of local class field theory is to classify abelian Galois extensions of a local field K. Several definitions of local fields are in use. In this thesis, local fields, which will be defined explicitly in Section 2, are fields that are complete with respect to a discrete valuation and have a finite residue field. A prototypical first example is Qp, the completion of Q with respect to the...
